About the Top Dog Names
Once again, Bella topped the list of female dog names. This name became popular over a decade ago when the Twilight series was released and the main character was named Bella. Even though Twilight mania has subsided, Bella has remained the most popular name of the year and the decade! Bella has topped the list for ten years in a row.
Other female dog names remained in the top ten include Daisy, Luna, Willow and Bailey. Names that rose in popularity included Harper, Rosie and Nala. Nala’s popularity may be due to Disney’s popular remake of The Lion King movie, which became the highest-grossing animated film of all time.
When it comes to male dog names, food names have become increasingly popular. For example, Oreo went from number 16 to number 5 in 2019. Other popular names included Bear, Charlie, Milo and Bailey.

Movies and television media tend to drive the popularity of some dog names. While it would appear many of the current top names will remain in the top name lists, new names may appear. Here are some predictions for next year.
